"If a voice can't be heard, teach it to be seen"- Emily Scott, Former Art Director

Art Relief International provides a VOICE for individuals by exploring various creative means, including visual, performance and experimental arts.

We believe that art is a powerful tool for change. Our mission for Art Relief International is to promote expression and cultivate the creativity that lies inside each individual. We use art to create an atmosphere of inclusion and belonging where often there is none. Art is used as a catalyst for releasing and challenging personal and societal stresses whilst encouraging cultural changes and awareness.

Volunteer / Intern

Art Relief International is looking for volunteers and interns from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. The only requirement is an enthusiasm for what we do and an appreciation of the arts as a tool for social change. There are opportunities for artists, art therapists, performers, musicians, writers, office assistants, and everything in between.

Art Relief International volunteers and interns can expect to play a large role with many projects. Unlike other volunteer placements, the art program works with a diversity of groups that focus on a variety of social issues. The volunteer / intern will have the opportunity to work with various populations including Burmese refugees, indigenous hill tribe groups, children and adults with intellectual and / or physical disabilities and children from local orphanages, to name a few. Volunteers / interns will also work with children from various 'Temple' (Government) Schools across Chiang Mai which are unable to offer art as part of their curriculum.

There are opportunities to work with other local artists on projects as well as design and implement your own creative visions. If you prefer to be more behind the scenes, there are also opportunities in arts administration. This opportunity is ideal for someone who likes to be involved in numerous projects and can work independently as well as within a group.
